English Majors’ Difficulties in Using Phrasal Verbs in Academic Writing

Phrasal verbs (PVs) are notably essential for English language learners due to their common use in spoken and informal written language; however, as a foreign (EFL) may find it difficult master phrasal verbs, not only at receptive but also productive levels. The syntactic semantic complexities prove much more troublesome academic writing those whose mother tongue does feature verb formations. Therefore, this study aims exploring majors’ difficulties with terms of syntactic, properties, formality informality tertiary institution Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. participants the consisted 124 majors. quantitative qualitative research methods were applied collect data via questionnaire semi-structured interview. SPSS software (20.0) was used process collected from questionnaires, while content analysis analyze interviews. results revealed that faced most property, followed by property. Such preliminary findings hoped contribute better understanding learners’ well enhance quality teaching learning.
